Preschool means new faces, new challenges and new expectations. At St Catherine’s Convent Preschool, we realise the importance of the special care and attention required to help your children adjust to this new stage in their development.

At St Catherine’s Preschool, our primary mission is to provide a safe and stimulating environment in which children can discover and learn new concepts, while providing an ideal setting to develop meaningful relationships with teachers and friends.

The St Catherine’s Preschool curriculum is designed to help children achieve school readiness in all areas of academic and social learning.

Our preschool programme is filled with investigation, exploration and discovery. A tailored programme in which active and enthusiastic children can refine and expand their skills and knowledge.

Through experiential teaching practices, purposefully designed learning environments and enriched activities, our teachers ensure that our pre-schoolers have joyful, appropriate and meaningful learning experiences that lead to success in school and in life.

The standard daily programme comprises of a morning ring, daily tabletop activities, snack, inside and outdoor play with emphasis on gross-motor activities, music rings, story time, sensory play and perceptual work activities. A new theme is introduced on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and daily discussions, activities and artwork revolve around this theme. Field trips, puppet shows and special visitors are arranged to enhance the curriculum.

Physical Education lessons include swimming lessons in the summer and movement.

School and Aftercare hours

A Preschool day starts at 08:00 and ends at 12:30, though children may stay at school until 17:00 and attend the preschool aftercare. There is a teacher on duty from 07:00 for early drop-off.  The preschool fees are a set price, irrespective of whether the learner attends a full or half day.

The day starts with a breakfast in the dining room from 08:00 to 08:30.

A mid-morning snack of a sandwich and seasonal fruit is served at 10:00.

Lunch is served at 12:00.

A mid-afternoon snack of biscuits and juice is also provided.

Should a learner have food allergies, the parent is required to provide food and snacks to ensure the learner’s safety.

Activities and learning areas

The Blue and Pink classes attend Coding and Robotics classes, Playball, Singing, Movement and PE, which includes Swimming.

The Care bears which are the 2-3 year olds attend Singing, Gross Motor Skills and PE which includes Swimming.

The baby class attends Playball, Gross Motor Skills and PE which includes Swimming.

Eye and ear screening tests

Compulsory eye and ear screening tests are performed annually.
