Swimming
At St Catherine’s Convent we feel that Swimming is a vital skill that should be learnt and is therefore not only offered as an extra mural but is also incorporated into our academic time table within the physical education department. St Catherine’s Convent holds an annual inter-house swimming gala where all the learners from primary and high school are urged to participate.
Swimming takes place in the first and fourth terms. We compete in the Gauteng Aquatics swimming B league. The swimming team consists of learners from U8 to U13.
The first term galas are individual races, and the fourth term galas are relay galas. We do compete against co-ed schools, so our girls do swim against the boys. We have a motivated swimming staff.
Netball
Netball is one of the larger sports that is played in the Winter season.
On netball takes place in the second term. We participate in the D12 netball league. Our teams range from U10 to U13.Training takes place at least twice a week and matches take place once a week.
D12 trials are held at the end of term 1 for the U12 and U13 age groups.
Hockey
The third term is when the hockey takes place. We participate in the D12 small school’s league and have been league winners quite a few times. The U10 and U11 play half field and the U12 & U13 play full field.
There is training twice a week and a match once every week as well.
Hockey trials take place in October for U11 and U12 learners.
Mini Netball
Mini netball is a lively and energetic version of netball, specially crafted for young players to dive into the fun of the game. With modified rules children get to learn the basics of passing, shooting, and teamwork in a supportive, playful environment. The primary goals for these little athletes are to build confidence, improve coordination, and make new friends while enjoying themselves. As they play, they not only develop crucial physical skills but also essential life lessons in communication and resilience.
These experiences set the stage for a lifelong love of sports, encouraging an active lifestyle and teamwork as they grow older.
