Tuesday, 16 January 2024 was the Grade 8 Orientation Day, which started at 8 am with the prefects welcoming all the Grade 8’s and making them feel as comfortable as possible. The main aim of the day was to get to know the new learners and make sure they were excited to be at SCC.
The school brought in a company to set up an ‘Amazing Race’-themed day throughout the school grounds. This was beneficial for all learners, as they were able to learn more about the school and work together in groups to make new friends. We then began sorting all the girls into ‘sister groups’ and assigned them all prefects. This was something the school hadn’t done before, and it made a real difference to the learners’ first year of school. Once this was done, we chatted and got to know each other within our groups – friendships were already forming.
We then began with some ice breaker activities and started with the games. The prefects participated in all activities and made sure that everyone was included. It was a fun-filled day – definitely organised chaos – but we all enjoyed ourselves. The prefects learnt a lot about our new learners, as well as ourselves, and it prepared us for the new school year.
We are so grateful we got to spend such special times with the Grade 8’s and sincerely hope they enjoyed it as much as we did. Thank you to all teachers who organised the day – it was very memorable.
