This year the St Catherine’s Convent High School production is bringing to life the vision of one of our own grade 11 learners in the hilarious play titled: ‘One house down’. Mysterious, right! This eerie play is set right here in the heart of SCC, with a few nods to familiar teachers. After much encouragement from our 2026 Drama Captains, many learners were excited to decode this mystery as they collected their scripts from the Head of Drama prior to auditions, which were held on Friday the 20th of February. It was moving to see the overwhelming number of learners who attended the auditions to showcase their unique acting skills. Nerves rushed through the air as everyone recited their lines, anxiously awaiting their turn to audition. Some of our seasoned Drama kids gave our new learners a few pep talks throughout the afternoon – the most important advice being to go in there and have fun. As we wait in anticipation for the final cast to be announced, we block out our Friday afternoons for the next few months. The chosen actors will work hard during rehearsals to ensure that they are able to present a memorable production on the 20th of August. This play and these auditions mark the first for many and the last for our grade 11 learners who have found their identities on stage and their forever family behind the curtains, so I look forward to all the backstage giggles, forgotten lines and the happy cries to follow.
