The St Catherine’s community once again demonstrated the true spirit of compassion, generosity, and service by coming together in support of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day Outreach. Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s legacy of giving back, our learners, parents, staff, and members of the wider community dedicated countless hours to knitting, crocheting, and assembling blankets and squares that will bring warmth and comfort to those in need during the winter months.
On 18 July 2026, Nelson Mandela Day, Mrs Parau and Mrs Guilherme delivered all of our donations to the collection point at Ferndale on Republic. They were warmly welcomed by the dedicated volunteers, who expressed their heartfelt gratitude and excitement at receiving such a generous contribution from our school community. It was truly rewarding to see the joy our donations brought and to know that they will soon provide warmth, hope, and comfort to families across South Africa.
We are incredibly proud to announce that the St Catherine’s community donated an outstanding 13 completed blankets and an impressive 612 beautifully knitted and crocheted squares, filling two trolleys with contributions. Every blanket and every square represents not only hours of hard work and creativity, but also an act of kindness and love from the hands that made them.
Whether you knitted a square, crocheted a blanket, donated wool, encouraged others to participate, or helped collect and organise the contributions, every act of support played an important role in the success of this outreach. Together, we have shown that even small acts of kindness can combine to make a significant and lasting impact.
Thank you for helping to make our 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day Outreach such an overwhelming success. Together, we have stitched hope, shared kindness, and warmed many hearts.
