The 2026 High School Cross Country season has officially drawn to a spectacular close, leaving our athletes filled with immense pride and unforgettable memories. From the very first day of training on the field in late July, the team showcased an exceptional work ethic and an unwavering commitment to representing St Catherine’s Convent with honour.
Throughout the season, the team faced rigorous schedules, including major competitive meets at other schools, as well as competing at the nearby course in Len Rutter Park. Preparing for these events required immense discipline, with runners balancing changing weather, injuries and tough terrain. Even when faced with unexpected setbacks, the team spirit never wavered, and the support system among the runners remained incredibly strong.
The absolute pinnacle of the season arrived with the highly anticipated D12 trials. The team put on a remarkable display of athletic excellence, giving their absolute best on the track despite facing immense physical pressure. Gauteng Championships awaited the runners who placed within the top 6 at district trials, and our best runners showcased their commitment and endurance while trying out for our provincial team. Whether the individual runners advanced to the next official round or not, the entire squad demonstrated true sportsmanship and dedication simply by showing up and giving their all.
As the season concludes, the team can look back at their shared journey with a profound sense of accomplishment. This year has truly highlighted the strength, resilience, and unity that define the sporting community at Saint Catherine’s Convent. We cannot wait to see how our athletes continue to thrive and what amazing milestones they will achieve in the sport over the coming years.
